The Women’s Premier League-2023 is a women’s cricket league of India like the men’s league, Indian premier league (IPL) which is called Women’s IPL, and later on, BCCI officially name it the Women’s Premier League. It is also known as TATA WPL 2023 for sponsorship reasons. It is organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tournament will play in Round robin and Playoffs format.
The opening ceremony was held on 4 March at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, with AP Dhillon, Kiara Advani, and Kriti Senon’s performances.
History: Women’s Premier League
- The first major women’s T20 competition in India was the women’s T20 challenge which was started as a single-match tournament in 2018 and was expanded to a three-team, three-match competition which was held in 2019, 2020, and 2022.
3 TEAMS: Trailblazers, Supernovas, and Velocity. - BCCI saw a vision to change it and make it more competitive and interesting then BCCI President Saurav Ganguly announced a plan to start an Indian Premier League of women’s in place of women’s T20 challenge. This league was informally known as the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) but on 25 January 2023, BCCI officially named it the Women’s Premier League, and later on BCCI announced five– a team tournament which was held on March 2023.
- On 28 January 2023, BCCI invited bids for the Title Sponsorship Rights of this league for the first five years (2023 to 2027) and it was sold to TATA at an undisclosed amount.

- A total of 87 players were sold in the auction of Women’s Premier League-2023 on 13 February 2023, of which 30 were from overseas and a total of ₹59.5 crores money was spent on their players purchased by all five franchises.
